Whether you’re a current resident of Columbia, SC or are looking to make a move to the area, there is certainly no shortage of exciting upcoming events in Columbia, Lexington, and Lake Murray in the coming weeks. In addition to St. Patrick’s Day and Easter festivities that will be happening this March, you can also attend various festivals, compete in races, and be inspired by live performances that will be taking place around Columbia, Lexington, and Lake Murray all month long.
St. Patrick’s Day Events
Lexington St. Patrick’s Day Parade – Head out to Main Street in downtown Lexington on Saturday, March 12th for their first ever St. Patrick’s Day Parade sponsored by the Lexington County Blowfish, Lexington Jaycees, and the Greater Lexington Chamber & Visitor’s Center.
7th Annual Oyster Roast & St. Patrick’s Day Party – Oyster season is winding down so you better get ‘em while you can at the 7th annual Oyster Roast & St. Patrick’s Day party on Thursday, March 17th at the Blowfish Baseball Stadium. Enjoy food from local restaurants, beer, wine, live music by Tokyo Joe, and of course…oysters!
St. Pat’s in Five Points – If you plan on celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Columbia, the 34th annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Five Points will be held on March 19th. The festival features over 15 musical acts, lively parade, delicious food and drinks, and a fun-filled children’s carnival. Work up your appetite before the festival by participating in the 14th annual Get to the Green Family Fun Run. Choose from the 10K, 5K or 1 Mile race. There’s still time to register online or you can also register in person on the morning of the event.
47th Annual Cottontail Festival – Hop over to North Springs Park on Saturday, March 12th for the Annual Cottontail Festival. Kids will enjoy a variety of games, rides, and an egg hunt. Concessions will also be available on site.
Edventure Spring Carnival – On Saturday, March 26th, the EdVenture Children’s Museum will be hosting their Spring Carnival where children can get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, participate in an egg hunt, and enjoy face painting and carnival games.
Festivals and Fairs
Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show – Whether you’re a first time home buyer looking for fresh ideas for your new place or are looking to make improvements on your existing home, the 50th annual Carolina Classic Home & Garden Show at the State Fairgrounds from March 11th – March 13th features a wonderful showcase of products and services for your home. Attendees can also attend a wide variety of seminars, and register to win from exhibitors in the show.
A Taste of Lake Murray – If you’re a fan of the annual 4th of July Fireworks on Lake Murray then you’ll definitely want to attend A Taste of Lake Murray on Thursday, March 24th at the Doubletree by Hilton. This event is the sole fundraiser for the fireworks celebration and features amazing food from local restaurants, food trucks, and entertainment by The Mark Roberts Band.
Tartan Day South – Looking for a way to celebrate your Celtic pride? The 6th Annual Tartan Day South event is a four day celebration of Celtic heritage from March 31st – April 3rd. The event will be held at the West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater and the Columbia Speedway and will feature an array of unique exhibitions, music, and traditional food and drink.
Sports and Outdoors
Run Hard Columbia Marathon – Start spring off on the right foot and enter the Run Hard Columbia Marathon on Saturday, March 5th. If you’re not up for running the full 26.2 miles, you can also enter the half marathon or 5K race. A kids 2K race will also be offered for 2nd – 8th graders. Don’t panic if you haven’t already registered – you can still sign up online from now until March 4th (register in person on March 4th at the Hilton Columbia Center Health & Fitness Expo).
2016 Midlands Heart Walk – Walk for a cause on Saturday, March 12th in the 2016 Midlands Heart Walk. Join your friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers to help raise funds for the fight to save lives from heart disease and stroke. Not able to participate? You can still visit their website to make a donation to support a participant’s fundraising efforts. You can also choose to give to a team or give a general event donation.
USC Basketball – Come out and support the Gamecocks for the last two home games of the men’s basketball season. They will be at the Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday, February 24th vs. Tennessee and on Thursday, March 3rd vs. Georgia. The women’s last home game will be on Sunday, February 28th vs. LSU.
Winter Jam – Say farewell to winter on Friday, February 26th when you attend Winter Jam 2016 at the Colonial Life Arena. The event starts at 6:45pm and features Matthew West, Lauren Daigle, Sidewalk Prophets, RED, Crowder, and more.
Blue Man Group – If you’ve never had the privilege of seeing one of the Blue Man Group’s wildly entertaining performances, then you’re in for a treat when the eclectic trio performs at Koger Center for the Arts on Friday, March 11th. The one-of-a-kind show will combine music, technology and comedy to create a form of entertainment that appeals to all ages.
The Moody Blues – If you’re a fan of rock legends, The Moody Blues, then you should definitely head out to The Township Auditorium on Wednesday, March 6th to catch their 2016 Fly Me High tour that features their self-proclaimed new sound and direction.
